My Time In Jail is more than just a memoir; it’s a journey into the heart of a broken system and a reflection on what it means to be truly free. As a retired school administrator and teacher, I went into a correctional facility to help incarcerated individuals earn their HISET diploma. What I found was a powerful, two-way exchange. The lessons they taught me about resilience and struggle confirmed challenges in my own life, and opened my eyes to how jail serves as a powerful metaphor for the invisible prisons we all build for ourselves.
This book re-examines the pathways to incarceration and argues for a bold new approach to our society’s most pressing issues. By rethinking our approach to public services, the safety net, and educational services, we can challenge the pipeline to prison and create a more just and equitable future for everyone.
Look for the release of My Time In Jail in the coming months. To extend this important conversation, I will also be launching a lecture and professional development tour. I’m excited to partner with bookstores, service providers, and organizations to bring these powerful stories and insights to your community through lively presentations and guest speaking engagements that will challenge your thinking and inspire action.
